Oh Cometh, Oh Spring...

If you’re looking forward to spring, the feeling is mutual. The dry air of winter and the inches and inches of snow are not exactly my idea of fun. Same goes for the layers of clothing which unfortunately didn’t help me much from the biting cold. Hence, I stay indoors most of the time during winter unless I have to go to work, of course.

Now that the wait is soon to come to an end, it’s time to bring out those spring essentials and that include perfumes!

I don’t really label perfumes as spring, summer, winter and fall. For me, I wear any fragrance I want regardless of the season. But there are certain fragrances especially the light and airy types which I regard as spring staples. Fragrances that energizes, fragrances that soothes and ultimately, fragrances that make me feel good.

Among the many perfumes in retail today, I know that it can become difficult to choose the perfect scent to suit your chemistry. You may have to try out a lot of fragrances before you find your “The One” spring perfume.

Here are some of the popular spring fragrances that garnered positive reviews from perfumistas:

Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne

Sheer, luminous, powdery-floral that fades away into a soft blanket of rose petals. YSL created a fragrance that exudes youth without being too cotton-candy sweet. Parisienne combines the vibrancy of berries and the warmth of musk and woods. Vinyl accord complements the softness giving it a nice synthetic surprise.

Be Delicious Fresh Blossom

Let’s face it, spring is all about freshness. And DKNY’s Be Delicious Fresh Blossom is just that – fresh, light and sparkling. The apple accord Be Delicious is famous for mingles with a symphony of floral notes starring rose, jasmine and muguet. Laced with musk in the dry down, Be Delicious Fresh Parent is yet another masterpiece from Donna Karan.

Miss Dior Cherie L’Eau

If you liked Miss Dior Cherie, its little sis, Miss Dior Cherie L’Eau will surely tickle your noses with its mood enhancing notes that features bittersweet  fruit accords set in the background of gardenia and white musk. Burberry The Beat

According to NYT perfume critic Chandler Burr, The Beat is a “nicely avant-garde scent— nicely in the sense that it is smartly and carefully positioned at that pendulum point where the refreshingly different and startling meets the accessibly commercial.” The Beat has a slight edginess  to maintain its sophistication and potency. This fragrance definitely belongs to the trendy category – very feminine and a great everyday fragrance.

Dolce & Gabbana The One

David Beckham Instinct Ice...

David Beckham’s latest fragrance offers a new interpretation of Beckham Instinct, David Beckham Instinct Ice. The scent conveys the unique charisma of David Beckham and his avant-garde metrosexual lifestyle.

Celine Dion will launch a limited edition fragrance this spring to represent the pop diva’s natural beauty and casual elegance. This April, Celine Dion Simply Chic welcomes spring 2010 with a blend of exciting floral notes, woods and light citrus.

Simply Chic is a refreshing and tangy fragrance that features Sicilian bergamot, black currant and mandarin at the top notes; freesia, linden blossoms and white rose  at the heart; and musk, white patchouli, amber and sandalwood at the base. Complementing Celine’s penchant for sophisticated simplicity, Simply Chic embodies what every woman endeavors to achieve – a confident feeling of being beautiful, effortlessly beautiful is more like it.

Celine Dion Simply Chic will be available in 15ml and 30ml eau de toilette.

Lancome Tresor in Love...

Lancome presents a new interpretation of Tresor – Tresor in Love. With this fragrance, Lancome stayed close to the original formulation, an oriental style floral scent, while playing with the concept of a youthful feminine heroine.

The notes are composed of nectarine, cedar wood, rose and jasmine.  Tresor in Love will roll out in travel retail outlets starting March 2010. It will be available in 30ml, 50ml and 75ml bottles.

Voyage d’Hermes...

Hermes will launch a new fragrance in April 2010 – Voyage d’Hermes. This new scent is marketed towards men and women and although the notes weren’t given much focus in the press release, it evolves on the concept of mystery.

According to perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, the fragrance is neither woodsy nor floral. Further, there is no particular note that stands out in the fragrance. The scent, rather, plays with the olfactory senses, wrapped in a confounded mystery of what is left of the fragrance after all the notes have subsided. What remains is what Voyage d’Hermes is all about.

The flacon is designed by Philippe Mouquet. He wanted the bottle to be devoid of all complications but possessing the qualities of beauty, sensitivity and simplicity.

Voyage d’Hermes will be available in 35ml and 100ml eau de toilette refillable bottles.

Yves Saint Laurent Elle Edition Collector...

This spring, Yves Saint Laurent Elle will launch a limited edition collector fragrance to match summer’s light and easy ambiance.

This new fragrance includes grapefruit, sambac jasmine, pink pepper and light amber. The flacon also gets a new look, ala-watercolor style, splashed with fuchsia, purple and gold hues.

YSL Elle Edition Collector will be released on March 2010.

Parfum Charriol Tourmaline...

Tourmaline is the latest fragrance from world-renowned luxury watch and jewelry brand, Philippe Charriol. According to the company, the fragrance was inspired by Tourmaline, “a mysterious gemstone said to possess the magical power of a love potion, incorporating an infinite array of colours.”

“Tourmaline is an entirely different eau de toilette: an eau de jour full of contrasts designed for radiant, relaxed, fashionable women who convey modern-day elegance with admirable know-how, naturally combining a pair of slim-fit jeans with a dressy sheer blouse and a men’s jacket. Tourmaline, an eau de jour for every day, pleasant under any circumstances, modern and refined, at once so personal and so easy to wear.”

The fragrance is created by perfumer Guillaume Flavigny and the notes are: Davana, cyclamen, ivy leaf, gardenia, fragipani blossom, water hyacinth, rose wood and patchouli.

The bottle is topped with a jewel-like cap with metallic celadon green facets and the coloured box features embossed tone-on-tone logos, bordered by a vertical silver strip that sets off the raised celadon green letters of the Charriol name.

Charriol Tourmaline is available in 30ml, 50ml and 100ml eau de toilette.

Kim Kardashian – The Fragrance Collection...

Kim Kardashian’s eponymous fragrance, Kim Kardashian, expresses her signature sultry style in this new floral scent.

The fragrance introduces crisp notes at the top – mandarin, honeysuckle and orange blossoms. The mid notes present a garden of lush florals – pink jasmine, tuberose and gardenia. Finally, sensual warmth arising from Tonka bean, jacaranda wood, sandalwood, musk and vanilla orchid completes the base notes.

Kim Kardahsian’s collection also include a travel size bottle called Kim Kardashian To Go in 30ml EDP and likewise, a rollerball edition in 10ml EDP.

Kate Moss Wild Meadow...

Wild Meadow is a white floral fragrance with fresh, green leaf notes reminiscent of Cotswolds – a range of hills in middle England.

The fragrance fuses soft florals, citrus and woodsy notes. The top notes are bergamot, pink grapefruit and peach weinberg. The middle notes include rose oil, magnolia and honeysuckle. The base finishes off with apple, benzoin and amber.

Wild Meadow is presented in a quaint rounded glass bottle with a stopper made of glass as well. Delicate flowers in pink adorn the flacon. This fragrance will be available in March 2010 in 30ml eau de parfum.

Chloe Eau de Fleurs...

The House of Chloe presents Chloe Eau de Fleurs, the latest collection of fragrances featuring three natural essences – lavender, nasturtiums and neroli. Perfumers Domitille Bertier (IFF), Alienor Massenet (IFF) and Louise Turner (Givaudan). The concept of the fragrance was nature and they took up the challenge to concoct three magnificent fragrances to represent the sensuality these three flowers evoke.

Chloe Eau de Fleurs – Lavender

Perfumer Domitille Bertier has always been enamored by the masculine scent of lavender. When art director Hannah MacGibbon asked her to create a feminine fragrance based on lavender, she was ecstatic. According to Bertier, it was like a dream come true. In creating the fragrance, she chose only the finest lavender species derived from France’s top crop.

“I wanted a simple pattern, the expression of an eau fraiche with the structure of a real perfume”, added Bertier.

The fragrance notes are citrus, violet, bergamot, tea chord, iris, musk, cedar, vetiver and amber.

Chloe Eau de Fleurs – Capucine

Chloe Eau de Fleurs Capucine focuses on the nasturtium flower. Louise Turner (Givaudan) said, “I like the simplicity of this flower that grows in my garden . You have to have a strong imagination to imagine the nasturtiums in a fragrance.”

In this fragrance, she combined citrus notes (bergamot, lemon, neroli) with galbanum extract, green notes, sage, rose, rose absolute, lily of the valley, juniper berries, amber and musk.

Chloe Eau de Fleurs – Neroli

Neroli or bitter orange stirs up the freshness in every perfume’s composition. “We wanted to let Neroli eau de fleurs unique scent and prevent it from smelling like a bay care product.”, said perfumer Alienor Massenet.

With this fragrance Massenet combined tangerine, orange, rosemary, neroli, peony, sage, amber, white musk, tonka beans, amber and cedar.

Chloe Eau de Fleurs Neroli, Lavender and Capucine are available in 100ml and are available starting February 2010.
